Boarding/Capturing ships

Has anyone come up with a reliable way of boarding or taking over ships without having to murder everyone first? I've heard of using ramps and tooth gear ladders, as well as helicopters, but I want to know how other players would go about it.

I suggest acting like you're stuck in the water then asking if they could help, if they do, whip out that RPG and take them hostage... ISIS style.
