New server from an old dev.
« on: July 16, 2017, 02:17:04 pm »
This is a pretty basic post im making.  I will come back later and revamp it due to shortness of time and making sure I don't forget about it again.

So, here we go.

Back when I was the DEV for HRP, I had an idea that I never put into action.  This idea was to expand the universe surrounding HRP.
The whole idea was to pretty much use the already existing base gamemode of HRP, witch can be copy pasted to another arm of the server box and it will automaticly connect that server's wallet to the HRP main wallet.  Also, inventory, rank and other things you already have will transfer back and fourth seemlessly.  This is already a function the gamemode has pre built in.
I know because the DEV server and the main server run off of the same framework and will connect all things together as long as they contain the same items/addons.  Aka, said addon is in server 1 and 2 it will transfer freely while if said addon is in server 1 but not server 2, it will not transfer but will remain in server 1.

Ok, now onto the meat of the post.

The idea was to pretty much make a city version of HRP.  It would be as if you went through the tunnel and crossed over into the city.  The main city that is.
Seeing as how HRP is set in a somewhat dystopian society/setting already, I figured we could have the harbor be the "food producing section" while the city be the industrial section.
This meaning that the city will have completely different ways to make money, like running machines or melting components or something.

MORE writing under pics.

I figured we could use the map rp_genova as a base for the over all city look and mold it to fit our server.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=262854297&searchtext=genova
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=691265713&searchtext=genova

This could also be transfered over onto the harbor server to fit the overall asthetic a little better. They are already pretty similar though.

KEY FEATURES
-A railroad that spans the map that players can purchase trains or a job that allows the player to have a train.  Trains aren't necessary but no other server uses them and it would be fun to have.
-An over all industrial theme to money making.  Things like making guns, dumping waist/transfering it to the harbor to dump.  Making ammo, making parts..
-The halflife 2 car mod. The map should support cars, simply to allow more flow of money and also more gameplay differences between harbor and this new server. (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=104648051&searchtext=source+vehicles)
-Titles of jobs to be changed.  CG will no longer be CG in the city server.  They will be called something more fitting like CP or something.  Mayor will stay same.  Maybe dictator.
-Food processing.  This will tie into harbor.  You could have shipments of fish that can be taken to key industrial buildings from the tunnel that connects to red.
-OIL refining.  Aka, the oil that you get from harbor in the ocean, transfered to the city for refining to gasoline and other needs.  Just money sink, can be made literal connection to vehicles though.

Everything should connect in one way or another.  It should feel like you are playing harbor, but you are not on the ocean but within the main city limits.

End of post for most part.  I will answer ANY and all questions and I will defend this post to the death... kinda known for that.

I will probably NEVER dev for HRP again unless its minor stuff.  Its too much of a spiders web of splintered and spread out code from 2011.  HOWEVER, thank.  And yes, this was supposed to be a thing back when I was dev.  I was going to buy a map and everything for it lol.  Twin harbor update will be the branch off update for the server more than likely.

I can get behind some of this however, it would definitely have to be a second server due to sources mapping limits. I feel like having to load between two servers to accomplish tasks like oil refining would be a bit annoying.

Oh no.  It won't connect like that.  More like, you get oil on HRP and take to NPC.  And an NPC gives you the "raw oil"  in the city server.  I mean, we could branch the two together possibly in a  way that would encourage working together as orgs... like oil being stored in an org bank or something and being able to be accessed by certain org members... but the main form will be as if you are just buying the crude oil like you are buying bait in the harbor.  No actual interaction other than "buy, refine, sell" or on HRP "Drill, ship, sell".

Maybe orgs could have some benefit for working together.  2 people on HRP collecting and depositing into the ORG bank/oil reserve or even fish reserve.  And 2 or 1 in the city collecting from the bank, refining and selling for more profit.

But it will mostly be just an NPC thing where you buy from the NPC to refine and sell.  And also to delever oil to an NPC in the harbor to sell.

All the equipment should be made more expensive than your first two pay outs or maybe something like a specialised boat or car... depending on what server you are on and if you are refining or drilling.  Or just a simple entity you purchase to use/refine with.

Or it can be more universal than that. People on HRP can drill oil and sell it as a market value per barrel or per 10 barrels, etc. Either it be a fixed market value or a market value that player sets for their shop/org/section of the market. Then that market value matches with the city server to be bought and delivered to a refinery for more profit. It can even be stolen during shipment.

There are many things that go into this.

Only problem I see with that is people not collecting or people not refining.  There should always be a base set for someone.  As in, if there is no one collecting, then it is random generation at a higher price.

By this, I mean if noone is selling the oil on the market, then the oil is still purchasable, but isn't collected and will cost more than the max a player can set it for.  Thus encouraging drilling.
We could also tie this into the vehicles themselves and have fuel be required to be refined/drilled in a sense... never will you not be able to get fuel, just if there is no refining going on, then there will be higher prices and the economy will suffer.
